One hair is all it takes. A quick DNA test to find your perfect partner, the one you’re genetically made for. A decade after scientists discovers everyone has a gene they share with just one other person, millions have taken the test, desperate to find true love. Now, five more people meet their Match. But even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking and deadlier than others.
The one was on my to-watch list and when this came out. The plot sounded very interesting and I couldn’t wait to watch it. Apparently, this series is based on the book written by John Marrs. I love how Netflix is creating movies/series based on books because I think that this could also help to sell more books. I mean, I want to read the rest of the Virgin River series now. And I think without Netflix, Virgin River would never make my To be read list.
Anyway, this series focuses on Rebecca Webb who is the CEO of The one, which is a dating business that matches people based on their DNA. And in the first episode, you also find out that someone killed Ben, Ben was a friend of Rebecca Webb. The problem I had with this series is that you find out who did it in the first episodes. I was constantly waiting for a plot twist but that moment never came. So you basically are watching this person trying to escape the police but that is it. Honestly, it was quite boring. I expected so much more.
But there were a couple of things that I did like. I liked the idea of matching two people based on their DNA. I also liked the actors, they were pretty good. And it feels like it could be a Black Mirror season about one topic (dating). I think fans of Black Mirror would love to watch this.
There were only 8 episodes in the first season of the one. Normally you would expect 10 from a Netflix series. Will there be a season 2? Maybe, there was an open ending but honestly, I think Netflix should cancel this show. I don’t think I will watch season 2 unless the trailer looks really good. And maybe I will just read the book instead because a lot of people are saying that the book is so much better.
