Reasons why I love Gilmore Girls

Everyone has a series that she or he can’t watch non-stop and watched every single episode at least 3 times. A lot of my friends are watching all episodes of Friends over and over. But there is another series that I really like to watch: Gilmore Girls. In this blog post, I give you the reasons why I love Gilmore Girls.

What is Gilmore Girls about?

In case you’ve never heard of this series, I am giving a little summary of what Gilmore Girls is about. It is a series from the early 2000s and it has 7 seasons and a few years back Netflix decided to make another 4 episodes. During those 7 seasons (so 7 years), you follow the life of single mother Lorelai and her sixteen-year-old daughter. Lorelai was pregnant with Rory when she was only 15/16 years old. The father of Rory and her ex-boyfriend Christopher is still in their lives.

In all of the seasons, you see Rory growing up until she graduates from university. Lorelai and Rory live in a small town called Stars Hollow and it is so small that everyone knows each other. There is a lot of gossiping and you will see that too in the episodes. And even though it is really a feelgood series, not everything goes right for Lorelai and Rory. They still have work/school problems or relationship struggles.

Humor & sarcasm

Sarcasm is my second language (okay maybe third) and there is a lot of humor in the episodes of this series. Especially Lorelai is almost always sarcastic. And there is Michél, who has a French accent and works at Lorelai’s Inn, and he is amazing and so funny. His humor is fantastic and his French accent is amazing. But there is always next level humor and the funniest moments are town meetings. Nobody likes to go to those meetings but Taylor Doose will be mad if you didn’t show up. And it is mostly about stupid things like traffic lights and relationships between two people.

All characters are amazing

There is not one single character that I don’t like. Even the annoying Taylor Doose is just brilliant. Or Paris, who is super annoying, but eventually you will start like her. It is almost impossible to have one favorite character in this series. I like Lorelai because of her humor, I like Rory because she knows what she wants and goes for it and loves to read, Luke who doesn’t give a shit about things and is a little bit grumpy, Taylor who thinks he owns the town or Kirk who is a little weird but funny.

Romance

And of course, this series is not complete without a little bit of romance. At the beginning of this series you see that Lorelai is a single mom of 32 and Rory is just 16 but both they start to date. Rory starts to date Dean, Jesse, and Logan. And Lorelai dates Max, Christopher (a few times) and Luke. And in case you are wondering: I am #teamLuke and #TeamLogan

I wonder if Netflix will make more episodes in the future. The last season with four episodes had an open ending. I did some research and a few actors don’t think that Netflix will produce new episodes of this series. I really hope that they are wrong. I mean, there is a cliffhanger at the last episode so it is still possible. But at the same time, I want the same actors to play the roles. In the last season, they didn’t replace Richard Gilmore, the actor who played Richard passed away, and I thought that was good. Because it wouldn’t be the same if someone else would play his role.

Books

Just like Rory, I also like to read books. I also read every single day before I go to bed because I fell asleep a lot faster when I read. Of course back in the day Rory had so much more time to read because they didn’t have smartphones yet. And Rory can read everywhere and forget about the rest of the world, she is really focused when she read.

What I like about this series is that there is now a whole reading challenge. This list contains all of the books Rory read. So if you like a challenge, go for it.

What is your favorite series and why?
