Horrorstör

Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.
To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.
A traditional haunted house story in a thoroughly contemporary setting, Horrorstör is designed to retain its luster and natural appearance for a lifetime of use. Pleasingly proportioned with generous French flaps and a softcover binding, Horrorstör delivers the psychological terror you need in the elegant package you deserve.

Review

It is almost Halloween and I wanted to read more horror books. Last week, I read ‘The ex hex’ which was more a romantic love story about two witches. This time I was ready for more serious creepy stuff and I saw this book on TikTok. At least that is what I thought. I picked Horrorstör because the cover looks amazing. This book just looks like the good old Ikea catalogue and I love that. Very original for a book. Although they mention it is not about Ikea, everything is a coincidence. Well, I can honestly this was 100% inspired by the Ikea because a lot of things were typical Ikea stuff. He wrote about the one tool you get when you buy something, that L-shaped thing. He talked about a restaurant, Ikea has a restaurant. And also how the store was set up was exactly a copy of an Ikea store.

I thought the story was unique. Okay, I don’t read a lot of horror books but I think the setting of this story was pretty great and cool. And to be honest, it was scarier than I thought it would be. At first, I thought this was going to be a letdown because nothing was happening and it took a while before actually something started to happen. I don’t want to spoil too much but a few times I thought something was going to happen and suddenly there was a plot twist. So they thought someone was breaking in and then they realized that it was someone who worked at the store.

The story was pretty gross and twisted which was perfect to get in the Halloween spirits. The story is built up nicely. It starts funny and pretty normal but later it gets darker and darker. Even the ending is pretty dark and interesting too. I think I won’t forget about this book just because of its style. It is very unique. The writing style is okay but without the design/layout it would have been pretty boring I think. But all together (the design, story) it works!

I would even recommend this just for the cover and the design, even when you are not a horror fan. I’ve never read anything like this and I liked it. I like when authors/publishers are doing something different. I am happy that TikTok decided to recommend this book to me. I was even surprised that the book came out in 2014/2015 and now because of TikTok, it is becoming very popular.
