The ex hex

Nine years ago, Vivienne broke up with Rhys and right after taking a hot bath and drinking a lot of Vodka, she decided to curse him. Just for fun of course, not a real curse. But now nine years later, Rhys is back and everything goes wrong and that is exactly the moment when Vivi realises she cursed him for real. Now they have to fix this curse before Halloween before it is too late. But that is not easy, because most books are about how to spell a curse and now how to undo them. And at the same time, it is hard to focus because Rhys is here and she realized she still has the same feelings for him as nine years ago

Review

It is almost Halloween and normally I don’t read a lot of thrillers or books about witches, but this year I decided to read books related to the season or special holidays. So I am going to read a lot of Christmas related books around Christmas and now I am going to read more scary books around Halloween. As I mentioned I don’t read a lot of scary books, so I needed to pick a book that is still a bit in my comfort zone but still related to witches or ghosts. So this book was the perfect one because it is actually about witches.

I liked this book because while it is still about witches, it is still pretty romantic and funny. Because they (well Vivi) accidentally cursed her ex-boyfriend. I thought that was funny. They thought it was a fake curse until Rhys comes back to their small town and everything goes wrong. And they have to undo the curse, but every time someone else is using magic, something terrible happens. So they have to fix that too.

But you would think fixing this curse would be their number one priority, at least for Rhys. But I didn’t have the feeling that he cared. I think he cared more about having sex with Vivienne because he still loves her. So it was kind of weird that this curse wasn’t his top priority because now he couldn’t use his magic. That was the thing only thing I was annoyed by, but maybe that is just me.

I also liked how they designed the chapters. At the beginning of each chapter, there is a black cat (Percival) and a candle which makes it more witchy. I liked that. Most of the books I read have the same chapter layout: it just says chapter X. So seeing something different in a book is pretty cool and appreciate the book a little bit more because they put in more effort.

I liked reading this book. I think this was the perfect book for me because I wanted to read something more ‘spooky’ but I also wanted to stay in my reading comfort zone and read a romance book. If you like romance books and you want to read a book that is perfect for Halloween, pick this one. This one is not scary at all so you don’t have to be afraid you will get nightmares.
