The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the star
Vanessa Hudgens is back as Queen Margaret, Stacy and Fiona. In the first movie, we could see that Stacy who owns a bakery switched lives with look-a-like Queen Margaret who wants to experience normal life things. In the second movie, Fiona was the enemy of Queen Margaret and Stacy, but this time they are working together to get the special star back. Someone stole it from them and they need someone who can think like a criminal.
Review
Yes! I was so happy to see that The Princess Switch was back again. I enjoyed the first two movies and I could not wait to see this movie as well. Just like in the other movies, something goes wrong and Stacy and Margaret have to fix everything. But this time they are not doing it alone because they realize they need someone with a criminal background and they immediately think of Fiona, Margaret’s cousin. They first introduced Fiona in the second movie and if I have to be honest, Fiona is my favourite. Fiona is funny and also likeable, especially in this movie. They decided to make her even more likeable and give her her own love story. That was a very nice twist in this movie. And it was very welcome too because we all know that Maggie and Stacy are married now. It is good that they decided to make a new love story, starring Fiona.
I am going, to be honest, and say that this was probably my favourite movie in this trilogy. I think I can say this safely because I think this is going to be the last movie. There was more action and I think less cringey moments. Especially the first one was a bit cringe, in my opinion.
This is the kind of movie you want to watch when you don’t want to think too much and you just want to have a good time. Because I had a great time watching this movie and the movie was over before I even knew it. I was not bored at all. The acting was great. Maybe the first movie was a bit cringing because I thought that prince Edward was not the best actor but his role is not that big in this movie. And while the makers decide to give Fiona her own love story as well, the movie was mostly focused on the Heist. I think because of that it went to the next level. The first movies were okay but not they were not standing out except for the fact Vanessa Hudgens was playing three roles at the same time. But the heist made the movie more interesting and I also think Fiona’s character helped with that. The movies needed a villain, not more romance. Funny though, because normally the first movie in a trilogy is the best but not this time.
The ending was also very nice and warm. Much can be achieved when they tackle a problem together and instead of being each other’s enemies, they became more like friends/family.
I know it is probably way too early to make conclusions but I think this movie was probably one of my favourite ones this Christmas season. I also liked ‘ Love Hard‘ a lot. Although, I have to admit it did not give me those Christmas/Holiday vibes. But I think it is still a very fun movie you can watch during the holidays with your whole family. As I said, I don’t think there will be a movie 4 because it felt like an ending. They became friends instead of enemies and the ending was happy. If they decide to make a fourth movie I hope it will be just as good as this movie. Or I secretly hope that the next movie/sequel will just be about Fiona because she was the main character in movies 2 and 3. And I still think it is pretty impressive that Vanessa plays the role of three characters in these movies. Must be hard to film everything and for Vanessa, it must have been very hard and confusing to get into a new character each time and memorize her lines. I am not sure if I could have done it.
Don’t worry if you haven’t seen the first two movies. It is not necessary to watch all of them because there is a summary at the beginning of this movie. So if you want to watch this one, but you are not in the mood to watch the rest, you’re totally fine. You won’t be missing a lot of information. All you need to know is that Stacy marries Prince Edward and Margaret is in love with Kevin (who has a daughter Olivia). And there is Fiona, Margaret’s cousin who is not always a nice person and has two friends called Mindy and Reggie. Or you just can read my review about Princess Switch 1 and Princess Switch 2.
Fun fact about this movie: During the heist, Fiona suggests December 14th as the code for the vault, stating that it is her birthday. December 14th is Vanessa Hudgens’ actual birthday.
