Squid Game
A group of people who are in debt and fail at life are getting the golden opportunity to win 45,6 million won which is around 10 million (American) dollars. But they have no idea what kind of game they have to play until they start the first game. They realize that they have to play kids games, but losing the game is a really bad idea. The games take place at an unknown place and the players can’t leave this place until there is one winner.
Review
I heard everyone talking about this new Netflix series and I couldn’t wait to watch it. The first thing I noticed was this show is pretty slow-paced. So in the beginning it took a little bit too long before they all entered this game and it started. The whole series is pretty slow-paced actually. During the games and everything, it didn’t bother me at all. But during other scenes, it got kind of boring but I still didn’t skip these parts. It is in Korean and I had to pay attention. This was not a series you put on in the background.
The game starts with 456 players and at first, they have no idea what they have to do, but soon they find out that the first game is a kids game, called green light, red light. I remembered playing this game too when I was a kid. Only this was different. I don’t want to say too much, but if you make one little mistake you are out. And you can never play the game again. I was pretty shocked when the real action started but also kind of excited because this was cool and interesting. And I couldn’t stop thinking that the people who came up with this idea is genius and is so creative.
Yes, I loved this series too. Was it perfect? No! Besides the fact it was a little bit slow-paced at some points, there was one other thing I didn’t like. Especially during the first game. You get to know a few people at first and that made it a little predictable. Because you will know they will win the first game. It doesn’t mean they are going to win the rest of the games though. But in my opinion, it was a little bit too predictable.
They also have a few rules and one of them is that you can’t refuse to play a game and another one is that you can end the game and go back to your life if the majority agrees to end the game. And then you can vote for it. But that means the money is not going to them and since they have a lot of debt, they need the money.
I also want to give a flash warning for episode 4. If you have Epilepsy, don’t watch that episode or part. Other than that I can recommend it to everyone who likes action and a lot of drama. Because they are not playing the regular kids game, even though it may appear like that.
Will be there a second season? Hard to tell, I think. I mean, it is not a surprise anymore what is going to happen during those games. But who knows?
