Review

I read the book by Casey McQuiston a couple of years ago, I would say. I had mixed feelings about it. I remember I realized I wasn’t really interested in the politics part of the book. The moment Alex and Henry fall for each other, Alex’s mom is also running for president again and there is a whole campaign and Alex has to behave himself. After watching this movie, I can safely say I am still not interested in (American) politics. Those parts were not interesting enough for me.

From what I remember, I believe Alex had a crush on Prince Henry. But that was not the case with this movie. I believe they changed quite a few things actually, which can be confusing when you read the book. Especially when you loved the book. For me, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the book. I just thought the book was okay but nothing more and honestly I forgot most of the details, so it is not really bothering me that they changed a few things in the movie. But I can definitely understand if you are a big fan, you would be upset or something.

The movie itself was okay again, just like the book. It did not impress me that much. I’ve seen better movies. The movie also felt extremely rushed, even when the movie was already 2 hours long. So I think it should have been a series. Maybe a mini-series or something. Just one season.

Another thing that was kind of bothering is the casting. I think they did a great job, but it would have been better if they were younger. It felt like they were too old for this movie. I googled the actors and they are 28 and 31. But in the book, Alex is only 21, which is a 10-year difference. But I really liked the actors too. I think they did a great job. The actor who plays Prince Henry looks so British and I absolutely loved Alex’s energy.

The thing I really liked was that they were also reading books in this movie. One was reading Casey McQuiston’s other book ‘One last stop’ and the other one was reading ‘Girl, Woman, Other’ I really like when they do this. Just like these little easter eggs. It is cute.

I mean, now it sounds like I did not enjoy this movie at all. But I did, especially the first part. That was cute and funny. I also think it is pretty cool they make more book-to-movie adaptions. It is fun to see those book characters on screen. And yes, sometimes that can lead to disappointment but most of the time I still appreciate that they tried. Most of the book-to-movie adaptions are at least okay. There is enough cuteness in this movie. But this movie is not for the younger generation. They have sex in this movie.
