10 tips on how to feel awesome on Blue Monday

It is blue Monday tomorrow, also known as the most depressing day of the year. You see it and hear it everywhere you go. And soon you will also feel depressed. But don’t worry, I am going to give you 10 tips on how to feel awesome on Blue Monday.

Why is it the most depressing day?

First of all, it is a Monday and that seems to be the day that almost everyone hates. It means that the weekend is over and you have to go back to work. But there is a whole formula which you can use for calculating Blue Monday. It all depends on the weather, the debt after the holidays, failed New Year’s resolutions and low motivational levels. And apparently most of the time this is on the third Monday of January.

10 tips on how to feel awesome on Blue Monday

But to be honest, I think you still can be very happy on Blue Monday. It is just the same Friday the 13th. Everyone thinks that that day brings you bad luck, but I think it is just a mindset and the law of attraction. If you think Blue Monday is the most depressive day of the year, you are probably going to act like that. And soon you will feel terrible and depressed. But don’t worry, Blue Monday can also be your lucky day this year.

Work on your resolutions

A lot of people made new years resolutions on the first day of the year. But unfortunately, some of us already failed or just gave up. But don’t worry. There is no rule that says you can only start your resolutions on the first day of the year or when you failed once you should give up. Don’t ever give up on your resolutions. If you want to lose some weight, go to the gym and start exercising. If you want to quit drinking alcohol, then stop drinking alcohol. It is not too late. And it is okay if you failed, nobody is perfect.

Eat healthy foods

So when you the right kind of foods (veggies and fruits), you will notice that you feel a lot better than when you eat a lot of junk food. So instead of eating a pizza, go eat a salad or find another delicious and healthy meal. Don’t be too sad if you think you have to give up on junk food. I eat healthy for 90% of the day and the rest of 10% I can eat whatever I want to.

Do something you like to do

Blue Monday is the perfect day to do something you love to do. Maybe you like to read books, then go read a book. Watch a movie at the cinema if you watching movies. Or call your friends and go bowling or laser gaming together. The more the merrier.

Book a holiday or trip

If you ever booked a holiday before, you know that you really feel excited about the holiday. You honestly can’t wait and you start planning and daydreaming. And that makes you even more excited. If you book a holiday on Blue Monday, you will feel excited instead of sad. And it doesn’t have to be a holiday. It can be also a short trip to another city (city trip) for a few days. You have something to look forward to.

Laugh

Laughing is the best medicine, at least that is what they say. So find a way to laugh. Go watch a funny movie or watch cat videos on YouTube. Or hang out with your friend, who is very funny and always has the best jokes. Or even better, go to a stand-up comedy show. I mean, is there a better place to laugh? Go look for a comedy show and buy the tickets.

Exercise

This one is absolutely my favourite. Every time I feel down, sad or stressed, I go outside for a walk. You get some fresh air and when you walk, your body releases all good chemicals, which makes you feel happier. You don’t really have to spend hours at the gym to feel better. You can find and do a work-out from home. There are a lot of long and short work-out videos you can find on YouTube. Or just go outside for a walk or a bike ride.

Make a gratitude list

When you make a gratitude list, you will see that Blue Monday wasn’t a bad day after all. You just sit down and write down all of the things that made you happy that day. And this can be anything, from a cup of coffee to a gift you got from someone. I make daily gratitude lists and it really helps you to focus on the positive things instead of the negative things. So I would definitely recommend this every day, not just on a Blue Monday.

Work from home or take the day off

If you have the option, work from home. Working from home asks for some discipline, but it is worth it. It is good to work in a different space every now and then. And bonus: you can maybe work from your couch or bed. Plus, your fridge is filled with your favourite food.
But if you can’t work from home, there is another option: take the day off. Especially if you don’t like your job. But I know this is very last minute, so only take the day off if this is possible. And maybe you can even use this day to find a new job that you will like.

Spread love

You are not the only one who is experiencing Blue Monday, so spread some love. Give someone a compliment or send flowers. Or maybe you can invite someone over for dinner or send someone a nice text. It will not only make them feel better, but you will feel better too. But do this only when you really mean it.

Self-care day

When you have enough time for yourself, then have a self-care day. Which means that you are really taking care of yourself. So eat healthy foods, exercise a little but not too much, take a hot bath and enjoy it. There are so many ways for a self-care day. Self-care day for me means that I do the things I want to do and taking care of my body at the same time. So I like watching Gilmore girls, but I don’t watch Gilmore girls all day long. If I watch Netflix the whole day, I would feel crappy. Your body wants to move too. Listen to your body and do the things you need to feel better.
