Your place or mine

Debbie and Peter are best friends. Twenty years ago they slept together, and since that moment they have been best friends. They call each other every single day. When Debbie has to go to New York for an exam, Peter tells he can watch Debbie’s son in LA and Debbie can stay at his apartment in New York. That is where Debbie also meets one of his exes  Minka, who is actually really nice to her. They hang out every day, but the more time Debbie spends in New York, the more she realizes Peter has been hiding things from her. On the other side of the U.S.A., Peter also realizes Debbie has been hiding a lot of things from him. And they both thought they told each other everything.

Review

What great timing! Valentine’s day is today and Netflix decided to release a new Romcom movie, starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. A smart move, because everyone loves them. I know I do. They are iconic. I was so happy to see that Netflix got them a movie together.

I honestly think the movie was pretty great, although some people might not agree with me on that. Of course, not everyone’s taste is the same, sometimes I also think it is a trend to say you didn’t like a certain movie. Anyway, a lot of people are saying this movie was boring and that Reese and Ashton had no chemistry. I definitely do not agree with the first statement, because for me it was entertaining. Then again, I love to watch rom-com movies. I am not the kind of person who enjoys watching action movies. Okay maybe sometimes, but not all the time. This movie was in the kind of genre I love, this was a good movie for me.

About the second statement that Reese and Ashton had no chemistry, I am not sure how I feel about that. They talk a lot on the phone and they talk like they are in a marriage but in a long-distance one. I definitely got that feeling from the start. However, for a romantic movie, they don’t have a lot of scenes together. The first scene they really have together is at the end at the airport (how cliché, I love it). So that was the most interesting part of this movie. Normally, in romantic movies, the two main characters spend a lot of time together. This time they just call each other. Maybe that is why people think there was no chemistry. I think there was at least a tiny bit of chemistry because I always notice when there isn’t.

So you won’t hear me complaining about this movie at all. I liked it. In my opinion, it is one of the better rom-com movies Netflix has ever made. Although, I think ‘Set it up’ is still one of my favourites. And it was good to have big stars in a movie. These days it feels like anyone can be in a movie. I hope there will be more movies like this one in the future. These kinds of movies make me happy.

But there is one thing I didn’t get and that was the title. They switches houses basically for a week, but it was never the question of whether they (both) would stay at her or his place. A different title would have been better.
