If you have social media and you spend a lot of the time on those apps, you might have heard about ‘Hot girl summer.’ When I heard this phrase for the first time, I thought it was about getting super hot, being skinny and dating a lot of guys. And I still notice that some people think this too. That is why I wanted to write this blog post about Hot Girl summer. Because it is not what you think it is.
Note: I know it is called Hot girl summer, but that doesn’t mean boys can’t do this. It doesn’t matter what gender you are.
What is Hot girl summer?
Hot girl summer might indeed give you the wrong impression. But the actual meaning of it is something else, although I have to admit that it also makes sense. Being a hot girl summer does not mean you have to be hot and kiss a lot of guys/girls. It is something positive. Hot girl summer means you spend the summer becoming the best version of yourself. Yes, you can decide to work on your body and start working out. That is also a part of it but it is so much more than that. Hot girl summer also means you are working on your mental health and how you want to behave.
I am using myself as an example. I am doing a hot girl summer right now. Okay, it is not summer yet, but in my opinion, it does not matter when you start. But there are a few things I would like to change about myself. I want to be happier, I want to be kind to other people no matter what the situation is and I want to follow my dreams. So for my Hot girl summer, I am doing a lot of inner work that will help me with this. I do meditations and visualizations, and read and practise all of them in real life. And during the summer, I want to become the best version of myself who doesn’t care about someone’s opinion, who is living her dream life, is being kind to everyone and who is in control of her emotions. Sometimes I let my emotions control my life.
How to have a Hot girl summer?
Now you know what it is, but since everyone is different there is also not just one way you can have a hot girl summer. You have to know where you are right now and who you are. Then you have to decide who you want to be. What kind of person do you want to be? Do you want to be more patient, less angry or maybe you are struggling with a mental health illness? When you know who you want to be, you have to start acting like that kind of person.
In the beginning, this can be difficult. You’ve been doing the same things for years and you can’t expect to be a completely different person in just one day. It takes effort, just like you would train your muscles in the gym. You have to do this work every single day.
Things you can do during your Hot Girl Summer
Meditate: Meditation has a lot of benefits and I think everyone would benefit from meditation.
Journaling: You can keep a journal, and write down your thoughts and your progress.
Working out: Working out is not just good for your body but also your mental health. Find a sport you like to do. You don’t have to go to the gym. You can also buy a pair of rollerskates or a hula hoop.
Work on your dreams: If you know what your dreams are, make a to-do and start working on them.
Reading: There are tons of books about mental health, manifesting and changing your life. Find a book that will help you.
Step out of your comfort zone: Do something scary, something you’ve never done before or something that will help you to overcome your fears.
Meet new people: Maybe you can find people who are also doing a Hot girl summer and you can motivate each other.
Go on solo dates: Become comfortable being alone. Take yourself on a date to the cinema or get a cup of coffee/tea somewhere.
Listen to podcasts/youtube videos: There are tons of podcasts and youtube videos. There are probably channels and podcasts that will help you on this journey.
Document your life: I can recommend filming yourself. Maybe you can start a TikTok account and share your journey with others. I think it will be cool to see how much you’ve changed over the summer.
Visualize: A visualization is a powerful tool because your brain doesn’t know the difference between something you made up in your mind or something that is happening. Which means you can use it as a tool. Visualize yourself as the person you want to become.
