The Starling
After losing their baby girl, Lilly and her husband is going through a rough time. While her husband is in a mental health clinic, she is struggling alone at home. But a starling decided to make a nest in the tree next to her house. This feisty bird is going after Lilly every single time she steps outside. On her mission to scare the bird away, she rediscovers her will to live.
Review
I’ve been a fan of Melissa McCarthy since Gilmore Girls and I think she is an amazing actress, so I was happy to see was the star of the new Netflix movie ‘The Starling’. But I also like to be honest and if I am being honest, this is my least favourite movie of Melissa. But is it really bad? I don’t think it is. Because sometimes a great movie can be a movie you don’t like. That was the case for me with this movie.
I think mostly this is because I’ve never experienced anything like this, so it is hard to understand the pain they are feeling after losing their child. I mean, I know it will hurt but I also don’t know how it really feels. So honestly, I think that is the main reason why I am not a big fan of this movie. But I went to the IMDB page and I read quite a few user reviews that they thought the movie was beautiful and they went through the same thing. One person said it was very realistic.
I am also more of a fan of fast-paced movies, a movie that will hold my attention. This wasn’t the one. Obviously, for its genre is perfectly made. I can see that. It makes sense that this movie is very slow-paced because it is about grieving and how to deal with that. And I really tried to like this movie, but it wasn’t my cup of tea. It didn’t touch me. I didn’t laugh or cry. Before watching this movie, I thought this was going to be great and very touchy. So I was a little bit disappointed.
But that doesn’t mean it was a bad movie. The actors are great and I can still see they did a great job on the movie. But sometimes you don’t like a movie, no matter how good it was. I think it is good that made a movie like this one. Maybe it will make someone who is going through the same loss, less lonely or maybe it can help someone. I rated this movie with a 5.9/10. I could give it a 6/10 but I didn’t feel it was worthy of 4 stars (6/10-7.9/10 is a 4-star rating) for me personally. So I am just giving it a 3 out of 5 stars.
