Nick and Charlie are back. In the first book, we could see how they met and they became friends instantly. They were spending a lot of time together. Charlie had feelings for Nick, but he thought Nick was straight. So he did nothing with his feelings. Nick was really confused about his feelings because he was feeling that this was more than a friendship. The book ended with Charlie kissing Nick.
In this book, Nick is trying to figure out his sexuality and while he is doing that Charlie gives him the space to do so. Charlie is also not pushing Nick to come out to his friends and family. He gives him all the time he needs.
Review
A while ago, I read the first book in the Heartstopper series and I loved it. Before reading the first book, I think I had never read a comic book and I had no idea what to expect. It is now a few months later and I decided to read the second book. So far, these are still the only comic books I’ve ever read. I remember that I tried to find more comic books like these books, but I couldn’t find one. I also had no idea where to look for more books like these.
Last Saturday morning, I was in a reading mood and I managed to read two books. This book and ‘When Harry met Sally again’ but out of those two books, this was my favourite one. I think I have forgotten how much I liked the first book. I read the second book in an hour or and it was over before I knew it, but it was so worth reading it. The first book was about Charlie and Nick and they became best friends in no time. The first book ended with a kiss. And that is where book two picks it up again. It is one long story split up in a few books. That is why I want to read the rest of the books soon because I feel like you should buy the whole series first and then read all of them in an afternoon or evening. It doesn’t take very long to read one book, so it is possible to read all of them in an afternoon. So if you want to read these books, I can recommend buying all of the books first before you start reading them.
The first book was about their relationship and them realizing they have feelings for each other. The second one is the beginning of their relationship. Charlie came out a long time ago and his friends and family are okay with this. Nick however thought he was straight but then got feelings for Charlie. His friends and family have no idea he likes boys too. Nick doesn’t even know what his sexuality is. He figures that out in this book.
My favourite part of this book was Nick coming out to his mother. That moment made me even cry. It was so beautiful and loved her response. That part made me happy. Nick also realizes that he does not like his friends anymore and that he needs new friends who accept people for who they are. Nick has grown so much in this second book and I love it.
I honestly can’t wait to buy the rest of the series and read them all. Maybe that is what I am going to do this weekend. Maybe I can make a little bit of time for myself and read these books. ‘
I can recommend this to everyone. I thought that comic books would never be my thing before reading the first book. But everyone was talking about it and I wanted to find out what the hype was all about so I bought the first one. And I loved it right away. This is the perfect book that makes you feel happy and warm. It is perfect to read in an hour or so. Maybe you take the bus/train to school or work, take these with you.
Another reason to read these books is that it is going to be a Netflix show very soon too. I think the first season will be released too and that moment when that happens, I am the first who wants to see the first episode. I am not always excited for a book to screen adaption, but I have this feeling it is going to be very good. At least, that is what I hope. I try not to have too high expectations. I had high expectations for the ‘One of us is lying’ adaption and they changed everything about that story and the ending. That was a huge disappointment.
