Booked on a Feeling
Lizzy is an extremely good lawyer, but on the first day of a trial, she gets a major panic attack in front of everyone. After the trial, she decides to take a break from work. She packs her bags and goes to Weldon to surprise her best friend Jack.
Jack has had a crush on Lizzy since he was ten years old. Now twenty years later, he is still in love with her. And he is more than happy to find out she is going to spend more time with him in the next few weeks.
Lizzy decides to give a local bookstore in Weldon a make-over and she is asking Jack’s help for it. The more time they spend together, the more tension there is between Jack and Lizzy. Could they be more than just friends?
Review
I am trying to read more books in 2023. There are so many books on my wishlist that I really want to read. This was one of them. It sounded really cute and Lizzy loves to read too, so we have something in common.
The first part of the book is about Lizzy’s life as a lawyer. At one point she gets a panic attack and I am very familiar with those. Reading about Lizzy having a panic attack, almost gave me a panic attack too. That part of the book reminded me of how terrible it felt to have one of those attacks. Not a great moment. If you also struggle with panic attacks, be careful if you also want to read this. Luckily, it was just one time when Lizzy had a panic attack that was described detailed.
But honestly, besides that triggering part (for me) of the book I am not sure how I feel about this book. This happens sometimes when I have mixed feelings about a book.
A part of me liked the book because there was definitely tension between the two main characters Lizzy and Jack. Recently, I wrote in a book review of ‘We met in December’, how I was missing the chemistry between the two love interests. And of course, in this genre, it is very important to have chemistry. But luckily, there was enough chemistry between Lizzy and Jack.
Another thing I liked was Lizzy finding out what she really wants. She always had panic attacks at work, but during her break she had none. Which makes it obvious she does not like her job. I had a pretty similar situation. When I got my panic attacks, I also realized that I was not doing what I really wanted. Lizzy and I had quite a few things in common, which was pretty cool.
But then the thing I did not like and honestly, I am not even sure what it was. But I think the reason why I have it a 6/10 is because the book did not impress me that much. I’ve read so many books now and of course, I have my favourite books too. There were a few books that I still think about sometimes, like ‘The flatshare’ by Beth O’Leary. But I am afraid ‘Booked on a feeling’ will be one of those books I will forget about it soon. For me, it was not rememberable.
