You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah

Stacey Friedman is a thirteen-year-old girl who is preparing for her Bat Mitzvah. She has many great plans and ideas for her Bat Mitzvah, but her parents are not okay with spending so much money on it.  But that is the least of her problems. Stacey does a lot of stupid things and her best friend Lydia also makes the wrong decisions, which ruins their relationship. But having your own Bat Mitzvah also means you are becoming an adult. Can Stacey act like an actual adult and own up her mistakes and make up with her best friend again?

Review

Maybe you remember that MTV show called ‘My Sweet Sixteen’. I remember I used to watch that show a lot when I was that age. One thing I remember from that show is that these girls were mean. They were spoiled, annoying, dramatic, and super mean. I got the same vibes with this movie.  Stacey wanted Dua Lipa for her Bat Mitzvah and was mad when her parents did not want to spend too much money on it. Also, are girls that age already talking about lip fillers and botox? I mean, is that a thing now? The girls in the movie were talking about it. They are thirteen years old!!

Also, these girls were super mean to Mateo for no reason. I know girls that age are mean, but I didn’t particularly appreciate how mean they were. They were just mean for no reason. Seriously. If you don’t like annoying thirteen-year-old girls, don’t watch this movie. I honestly had a hard time watching for this exact reason. I was so close to giving up after 15 minutes. But I guess this movie is more for thirteen girls, so they won’t probably even notice.

I am still wondering a couple of things though. This is because I don’t know much about any religion. Did they go to two different schools at the same time? I believe they went to a public school and a Hebrew school. How often do you go to this Hebrew school?

I guess this movie is just okay. Maybe if you really like Adam Sandler’s movie, you will like this one too. I have to be honest and say I am not the biggest fan of the movies he plays in. I also thought the slow-motion parts were pointless. There was absolutely no need for that. But since I don’t know a lot about religions, I think I have learned a couple of things because of this movie. Learning new things is always good.

One thing I found out after watching this movie, is that the whole Sandler family is acting in this. Adam Sandler, his wife, and his two daughters are in this movie. I wonder how that works. How do you keep work-life separate from normal life? I know from experience, that this is pretty hard. But on the other hand, it is kind of cool. Apparently, Adam’s kids and wife make appearances in all of his movies or at least most of his movies.

There were two moments in this movie I had a lot of questions about. In this movie, they talk a lot about getting your period and Stacey was on her period one day and she jumped into the water. Suddenly her pad was floating. But she was still wearing her shorts. So how does that work? That doesn’t make any sense. It would have made more sense if she lost her shorts in the water too.  The second time I raised my eyebrows was the moment when the dad (Adam) was wearing a bathrobe to the cinema. Is that something Americans do?

I also wonder if older movies contain the same amount of music. I have noticed that movies these days contain a lot of music. Is it just me or is that really true?
