Exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, but many people struggle to find the time or motivation to go to the gym. Fortunately, there are many ways to exercise without ever setting foot in a gym. In this blog post, I’ll explore some of the benefits of exercising and offer tips for how to exercise more without going to the gym.
How to exercise more without going to the gym
-
Take a walk: Walking is one of the simplest and most effective forms of exercise. Try to walk for at least 30 minutes a day, whether it’s around your neighbourhood, a local park, or even inside your home. Or walk to the stores when it is not too far.
-
Try bodyweight exercises: You don’t need a gym or equipment to do strength training exercises. Bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, squats, and lunges can be done at home and are great for building strength and endurance.
-
Go for a bike ride: Cycling is a great way to get outside, enjoy nature, and get some exercise. You can ride your bike around your neighbourhood or explore nearby trails and bike paths. Or take your bike to the stores when you go shopping or to work. I am from the Netherlands and I use my bike a lot. I use it to get to work, to go grocery shopping or just for fun.
-
Dance: Dancing is a fun and effective way to get moving and burn calories. I really like Grow with Jo, she has a lot of great workout videos including a few dance workouts. And that makes it more fun. But I also really like to put on headphones in the morning and just dance around the living room in the morning. Or dance while I am making dinner. This way I keep exercising fun.
-
Try yoga or Pilates: Yoga and Pilates are great for improving flexibility, strength, and balance. You can find workouts online for nothing. Both are great ways to exercise more and it is not as intensive as other sports. But at the same time, your body will stronger. There are different kinds of Yoga/Pilates, just find what is best for you.
- Move your body while watching an episode of your favourite series. This is kind of my favourite way to exercise more these days. I just put on an episode of something and just start moving my body. And because you are watching something at the same time, it does not really feel like exercising. It is over before you know it.
