What you have to do before your start a blog

What you have to do before you start a blog.

You decided to start a blog! That’s great but making that decision was probably the easy part. Because when you want to start, you have to prepare and you have to do a few things before you can finally start blogging. In this blog post, I will tell you what you have to do before you start a blog.

The first thing to know and to do is to find out what’s your blog going to be about? If you love make-up, you can start a beauty blog or maybe you love books, then start a book blog.

Now the thing is that I don’t think you have to stick one niche. Look at my blog for example. I blog about books, movies, lifestyle and law of attraction/mindset. Those are a lot of different niches. A lot of people will say that you have to stick to just one niche. I think that is bullshit (excuse me). I am just interested in just more than one topic. And as long you are really interested in the topic and you are not writing it because you want more views, then you are fine.

A few examples of niches:
– Beauty
– Lifestyle
– Business
– Mindset
– Books/movies
– Fashion
– Electronics

Hosting or free website?

The next step is that you have to make a very important decision. Do you want to start on a free website? Or do you want your own domain? Of course, your own domain looks very professional. But when you buy your domain name for a year and then you decide to quit after just 2 weeks, then it is a waste of money. So if you are not really sure if blogging is something you will like, try it first on a free website. The free WordPress site is probably the most popular one to use. And you can always switch to your own domain later.

But if you want to start earning money with your blog, then buying your own domain is a pretty smart move. But I would like to mention that you shouldn’t be a blogger just because you want to make money online. If you are not really not enjoying it, you should quit and find something else.  My hosting company is Strato and they are really great. I never experience any troubles with loading my site and I got a free SSL certificate, which is very important if you want to protect your site. And not just your site, since the new GDPR law, you need an SSL certificate for your website.

Write a few blog posts before you launch your blog

This is ,of course, optional, but I think it is a smart move. Because when you just upload one on your brand new blog, people would not stay for long on your blog. But when you already published 20 articles, they would probably stay a little bit longer on your website.

It is also smart to start thinking about your linking (external and internal) strategy. Use a few internal links if you published 20 articles. First of all, people can click on that link and they go to your other blog post. That means you will get more views and they stay longer on your website. But when you start a new blog, your DA score is 1. And if you are really serious about blogging, you want a high DA score. Of course, that will take a lot of time. But in the beginning, it is pretty easy to raise your DA score from 1 to 5 for example. Especially when you already published a few blog posts and made some internal links.

Do you need some inspiration. A while ago I wrote a whole blog post with 110 blog post ideas.
