One of my goals was to read more books. Well, I have finished my first book this month and it was a big one! More than 500 pages. I am so proud, but let’s talk about this book. I read the first book of the immortal instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
About City of Bones
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.
I’ve seen the first two seasons of the shadowhunters on Netflix and I know a third season is coming this month. I really like vampires, werewolves and shadowhunters stories, so I wanted to read this book. However, the stories are different. I mean, the most important things in the series/book are the same, but the rest of the story not so much.
For example, I think that Alec is a lot meaner in the book than in the Shadowhunter series. And I am wondering when Simon will turn into a vampire. In the series Simon becomes a vampire pretty quickly, but not in this first book of the immortal instruments. I want more Simon!! Since the stories are different, I really want to read the rest of the books and read what will happen with Clary, Valentine and the other shadowhunters/downworlders. There are still five other books.
I also like the fact that there is a map at the beginning of this book. It gives this book just a little extra.
For me as a Dutch person, it was a bit hard sometimes to read it. There were a couple of difficult words in this book. But this is also a way to learn new words. If you want to read an English book, and your first language is not English, be sure your English is good enough to read this one.
