About Romeo and Juliet

We all have heard about the story of Romeo and Juliet.¬†The classic story of Romeo and Juliet, set in a modern-day city of Verona Beach. The Montagues and Capulets are two fighting families, whose children (Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet) meet and fall in love. They have to hide their love from the world because they know that their parents will not allow them to be together. There are obstacles on the way, like Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, and Romeo’s friend Mercutio, and many fights.

I have to make a confession. Of course, I’ve heard about the story of Romeo and Juliet and they died together, but I never watched the movie. I saw this remake on Netflix and I thought why not.
At first, I thought I was watching a bad gangster movie. I saw guns, gangsters and bad clothing/haircuts from the 90’s. Thank god, there is Romeo and yes I have to admit: I have a crush on the young Leonardo Dicaprio. So that was already a big plus for me. Absolutely one of my favourite actors in the 90’s and early 2000’s. But oh my Juliet is also very beautiful. And¬†although it is set in modern times, it is still the same timeless story of the “star-crossed lovers”. They still speak the same as back in the days. In the beginning, it was hard to keep up and I had a hard time to process everything they said. But I adapted really fast. Now I want more! Even when they were fighting, it was somehow so beautiful how they spoke.

Before I even knew it, the movie (2 hours) was over. Definitely going to watch the original movie of Romeo and Juliet soon and maybe I will the book too. It made me realize that it is kind of sad that I never learnt about this story at school.

RATING: 7.5/10
