The whole country (The Netherlands) is in lockdown and we can’t go anywhere except for work (if we can’t work from home) and supermarket. This obviously affected my whole morning routine. After the holidays I was really struggling with taking time for myself in the morning. But just a few days ago I created a new winter morning routine for myself.
My winter morning routine
I wake up without an alarm, which is the best thing ever. But I wake up between 8 or 9 AM, I try to wake up at 8, that means I have to go to bed earlier. When I wake up, I lie down for just a couple of minutes and try to feel how I am feeling.
I always eat breakfast first, because I am always hungry in the morning. I eat the same thing every single morning, which is a slice of bread with something on it. And I also drink water in the morning, because I have to hydrate my body obviously.
I like to start the day being grateful. I write down the things I am grateful for every single morning and it helps me to focus on the good things in life.
I love to read fiction in the evening before I go to bed, but when I wake up I like to read a chapter of a self-improvement book. I am currently reading ‘Breaking the habit of being yourself’ by Dr Joe Dispenza.
Exercising is great for your body but also your mind. I feel so much more alive when I exercise. But I don’t like going to the gym and all of that so I just have a dance party on my own. It is also really fun and a great way to start your day right.
Then I use my list of affirmations. I look at myself in the mirror and say these affirmations out loud. Affirmations are a great way to reprogram your mind and feel more confident.
And last but not least, I take a shower and I get ready for the day no matter what. I get ready on a Monday but also on a Sunday when I don’t have to leave the house. It gives me more confidence if I look great.
