Today (Monday) I have a day off. I woke up pretty late, around 9 AM and did a workout. After that, I got ready for the day, but not much later I saw it was already 11 AM and suddenly I felt anxious. Even though I didn’t make any plans for today I still got this feeling that I had to be productive today. And I don’t like this feeling. I don’t want to be productive all the time.
I don’t want to be productive all the time
When I was a kid, my parents would always tell me to do something useful with my time. And because of that, I’ve always had that feeling that I had to be productive all the time. Social media like Instagram didn’t make it better either. You see people talking about what they did today and suddenly you feel guilty because you’ve been watching Netflix all day. I think we have to get rid of this idea that we always have to be productive. It is not healthy!
What if you are feeling extremely tired today and you could actually need some rest? You should take care of yourself, right? But then you see people talking about their to-do lists for that day and suddenly you feel bad about your day off. I think we should listen more to our bodies and what it is trying to tell us and we should stop listening to people on social media and our society. It is okay to take a day off and do whatever you like. It is okay to watch binge-watch your favourite series on a Sunday, it is okay to spend all day in nature without thinking about your to-do list.
We are rushing through our to-do list but we forget to enjoy life. That is what life is about. We should stop for a minute or two and take a deep breath in and enjoy the present moment. That is all we have right now. It is great when you crossed everything off your to-do list today, but did you also enjoy your day? Do you really feel happy? I think that is all that matters. What if you are suddenly dying and you realized you were never truly happy? And you regret that you were always too busy to enjoy life? But right now, it is not too late to change your life and mindset. Make a list of things that brings you joy and do those things. Be grateful for the things you already have. Start living like you are the main character in your own movie and try to enjoy every single moment. Throw away those to-do lists and do what makes you truly happy.
Don’t forget to enjoy life
