Self-care is something that we hear about all of the time in the modern world. No longer are we focusing upon trying to get to the places that we want to be, at the expense of our mental wellbeing. Instead, we’re taking it slow, having that candlelit bath when we need it, and opting for some time out. And it’s been a long time coming, you know? However, getting self-care right can be difficult, especially if you’re used to running around like a headless chicken all of the time. Here’s how you can give it a go.
Think about your needs
In a world that is growing increasingly more reliant upon social media, it’s hard to take a step back and think about what you really want. After all, we’re always sold lifestyle ideas, and we think, ‘wow, I wish I could just be like her.’ However, this is not about that unknown person on your screen, it’s about you. What would make you truly happy, and what have you found that make you feel revived? For some people, this is a visit to Church – like the Universal Church Kingdom of God – and for others, it looks more like having a beer on the beach. Whatever it is that makes you feel better, do that. It’s all about your needs!
Take it slow
A lot of the time, we find ourselves struggling a little mentally because we’re just trying to take on way too much. We’re catching up with work on our morning commutes, we’re thinking about work when we’re at home, and for some people, there are even side hustles to think about. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Self-care, then, may just look like you slowing down a bit, and cutting out any use of your phone, or your laptop, for few hours a day. It doesn’t have to be hours worth of yoga, you know? Just you and your thoughts, and something that you love to do. Let work go for a little while; after all, there’s more to life than that, isn’t there?
Get outside as much as possible
Something that we all deal with is feeling like we’re just too trapped. We’re in the office for 40 hours a week, then we’re in our apartments, and if not, we’re on the subway, all pushed together like sardines in a can. Sometimes, all you need to feel refreshed is to get out into the park – or into the forest, or to the beach – and to just enjoy that feeling of freedom. If you want to go alone, then this is a good idea too, and you can just sit back with a book and enjoy some time away from the chaos. Nature is one of those things that always brings you back into a good headspace, so give this a try if you can get to a natural area.
So, if you want to get self-care right, then it’s important to remember that it is personal. But trying out these things could definitely help! Good luck!
