About The Elite
Only 6 of the 35 girls are left in the Selection and America is still one of them. And unfortunately so is Celeste. But America has her new best friend Marlee. They have to fulfil more important tasks, including organising a welcome party for the queens and kings from other countries. One morning the maids wake up America very early and they don’t tell her what is wrong. But then she sees Marlee, she gets punished because she was dating another guy from the castle. And America is still figuring out her feelings for Maxon and Aspen. At the end of this book, she makes her decision. That is after the king wants her to send home, but she gets another change.
If you have missed my review about the first book in the selection series, you can read it here. We started with 35 girls and now just 6 of them are left. America is still one of them, but she is definitely struggling in this part of the ‘competition’. She is struggling with her feelings for Maxon and Aspen. You can really tell from this book that she is so insecure. Maxon tells her that he loves her, but somehow she does not believe it completely. This book has also a very sad part because Marlee (one of my favourite characters too) made a huge ‘mistake’ by falling in love with someone else. That part was just terrible to read and I literally had tears in my eyes.
America is very lucky in this book because she is also making more mistakes too. She fights with Celeste (GO America!!) and she is saying a lot of things that the king does not like and the king wants to send her home immediately. Luckily for America, Maxon is making the decisions who leaves and who stays.
I like America and of course, I am rooting for the underdog, but she really has to be careful in book #3 and stay away from Aspen. I thought she would be more careful after what happened to Marlee, but no.
But overall, I liked this book. I finished in just a couple of hours and I had to finish it before I went to bed. This is beside The Shadowhunters, one of my favourite book series. It is cute, sassy and funny and a little bit sad too. But you can really feel the chemistry between Maxon and America.
